Using Day One Trades
Day One Trades is a free set of short interactive lessons that introduce the skilled trades. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
You do not need an account. Your progress is stored in your own browser. You may join the waitlist with your email address if you want to hear when more is ready.
What this is not
This is the most important section on the page.
Day One Trades is an introduction. It is not trade school, not an apprenticeship, not a certification, and not a substitute for licensed instruction or supervision. Finishing every lesson here does not qualify you to do any trade work.
Some lessons refer to codes and standards such as the NEC, IPC, AWS, OSHA rules and EPA 608. Those references are simplified for teaching and may be out of date, incomplete, or wrong for where you live. Codes differ by jurisdiction and change over time. Never rely on anything you read here to perform electrical, plumbing, gas, structural, welding, HVAC or solar work. Follow the current code that applies to you, the manufacturer’s instructions, and a qualified supervisor.
Trade work carries real risk of injury and death. Nothing on this site is a safety instruction.
Fair use
Please do not:
- try to break, overload or probe the site, or get around its rate limits and anti-bot checks;
- submit other people’s email addresses to the waitlist;
- scrape or bulk-copy the lesson content, or republish it as your own.
We may block access that does any of these.
Content
The lessons, exercises, text and design are ours and are protected by copyright. You may use them to learn. You may not resell them or pass them off as your own work.
Emails
If you join the waitlist, we will email you about Day One Trades. Every email will have an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing does not affect your use of the site.
No warranty
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not promise the site will be available, uninterrupted, or free of errors, and we do not promise the content is accurate or current.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Day One Trades and anyone working on it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or for any personal injury or property damage, arising out of or relating to your use of the site or anything you learned from it, whether the claim is based in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability or anything else, and even if we have been advised that such damages are possible.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which for a free product is nothing, or one hundred United States dollars.
Some places do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or liabilities, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability for fraud or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes and ending access
This is an early product and it will change. We may add, remove or alter features, and we may stop offering the site entirely. We may update these terms; the date at the top will change and continued use means you accept the update. We may end access for anyone breaking the fair use section above.
